Course Description:

This course provides basic awareness about how to manage workers who are returning to work from a disability or injury. The Employment Standards Act (ESA) provides the minimum standards for working in Ontario. It sets out the rights and responsibilities of employees and employers in Ontario workplaces.

An injury under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) is considered a disability under the Ontario Human Rights Code. Therefore, you not only need to meet the employer’s obligations under the WSIA, but also under the Ontario Human Rights Code.

In Ontario construction projects are regulated by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ontario Regulation 213/91: (reference e-law). Disability Management is governed through the regulation in multiple sections such as first aid, incident reporting and investigation, and the general duty clause.

It is crucial for individuals responsible for compliance with the Employment Standards Act (ESA), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA), and Ontario Human Rights Code in the context of disability management.
